Pilos’ trainer on cosmic course
Mon, April 11 2011
Boutique trainer, Bob Richard, keeps punching above his weight, taking out his first double with Pilos and Cosmic Vision at Fannie Bay yesterday.
Richard, who only has a team of six in work, has been riding a hot streak, collecting a winner in four of the past five Top End meetings.
Backed in from $5.50 to $4.40 on track, Pilos justified the plunge with a smart performance in the feature, the Coded Welded Services Benchmark 73 Hcp (1300m). Sitting off a hot pace being set by $2.30 favourite Gilbeau, Colin Haddon was patient before unleashing Pilos down the home straight and coming away to win by three and three-quarter lengths.
Cosmic Vision took advantage of a small field and Cara Angel’s 3kg claim to hold off a fast-finishing Faslination in the last. Haddon completed a riding double, continuing his good form after claiming the NT Guineas with Marseillaise in Alice Springs on Saturday.
Haddon steered home Alana’s Mate for Chris Pollard, returning to the sort of form that saw her win her first two race starts.
A well-judged front-running ride from Vanessa Arnott helped lift Erembourg to his first win at Fannie Bay from 18 attempts.
From the Tayarn Halter stable, Erembourg held off Besofabuleux and Tricked Them in the Mitty’s 0 – 63 Hcp (1300m).
Earlier in the day, the Territories leading trainer-jockey combination of Stephen Brown and Scott Hillebrand tasted success with promising four-year old One Carat.
