Newcomer Hierarchy can show where he stands in the pecking order of leading Top End trainer Stephen Brown at Fannie Bay tomorrow.
That is the view of jockey Scott Hillebrand, who will guide the four-year-old through his Darwin debut in the NT Major Events Company Handicap (1100m).
Hierarchy started his career as part of the large Darley operation, winning races at Canterbury and Randwick as a two-year-old.
But he was moved out of the Peter Snowden stable after eight starts, having not added to his winning tally, and embarked on a preparation with trainer Rick Worthington. Three unplaced runs later and he was headed up north, where the next chapter of his career begins.
And Hillebrand is optimistic he will find his feet.
"He's a nice type of horse and ran some good races in town as a two-year-old," Hillebrand said. "This will be a good test to see where he's at because we are still trying to get to know him as a horse." Hillebrand explained renowned Queensland hoop Shane Scriven, in the Top End as part of his comeback to the saddle, had ridden the son of Niello in trackwork.
