Hearts set to race for Cup

Tue, November 01 2011

More than 1500 people are expected at Fannie Bay today to watch the horse race that stops the nation, the Melbourne Cup.

But the action won't be restricted to Flemington, with six races being run and won at the Bay this afternoon, while Alice Springs is playing host to a five-race card.

Even Darwin Cup Carnival ambassador Sarah McNee wanted to get some late mail for Cup day, spending some time with Courting Magic.

Trained by Kerry Petrick, Courting Magic is lining-up in the feature race of the Darwin meeting, the $16,000 Lexus of Darwin WFA Stakes (1100m).

Darwin Turf Club Marketing & Communications Manager Pina Sommerville is looking forward to a big day of racing both here and interstate. " Melbourne Cup is always a popular day on the calendar, with plenty of colour and fun," she said.

The Melbourne Cup will be run at 1.30pm NT time, with defencing champion Americain the favourite to go back-to-back.

The first race at Fannie Bay starts at 1.44pm, while the Red Centre program kicks-off from 3.26pm.
