Neil Dyer says he will appeal against Monday's decision by Thoroughbred Racing NT stewards to fine him $5000 and strip Palmyra Boy of his Chief Ministers Cup triumph.
The Victorian trainer lodged the paperwork for his appeal with the Darwin Turf Club late yesterday, four days after the inquiry into a positive swab delivered by the grey gelding.
Palmyra Boy showed elevated levels of testosterone over the allowable amount of 20 micrograms per litre in the sample taken after the win on July 9.
Speaking from his home in Kyneton, an hour's drive north of Melbourne, Dyer told the NT News why he elected to challenge the stewards' finding.
"We feel we've got a good case, but that's really all I want to say at this point," Dyer said.
"We'll submit the paperwork and the fee for the appeal, so it can be heard by the Northern Territory Racing Tribunal."
Dyer has enjoyed a great deal of success during his annual Top End odysseys in the past four years, highlighted by Hawks Bay's Darwin Cup victory in August.
