Every jockey is searching for the horse that will define their career.
The lucky ones find them, such as Jay Ford with Takeover Target, Nash Rawiller, who made his name aboard Elvstroem, and Malcolm Johnston, synonymous with Kingston Town.
Darwin apprentice Simone Montgomerie looks to have found hers in the shape of exciting speedster Dream Face.
The four-year-old mare made it six wins on the trot with a dominant victory in yesterday's $16,000 Lexus of Darwin WFA Stakes (1100m) at Fannie Bay.
Dream Face ($2.10 fav) simply put a quality field to the sword, jumping straight to the front and saluting by a comfortable three-length margin.
Runner-up Blackbriar (Paul Shiers) showed he is on track for bigger things with this preparation by making good late ground in his first appearance since finishing third in the Darwin Cup.
Back to the winner, and a delighted Montgomerie took the NT News through what proved a painless run and victory for Dream Face's followers.
"Today she felt the best she's ever felt in a race.
"I just knew the whole way she was going to win it," Montgomerie beamed post-race. "I was always confident going into today. She's just easy to do anything with and great to ride."
Montgomerie described the daughter of Face Value as the model professional racehorse.
"I'm so confident with her, she's always first out of the gates and gets to the rail no matter what gate she draws," Montgomerie said.
"She's a nice quiet horse, maintenance free and she's on fire."
Trainer Gary Clarke called yesterday's success the best of her eight wins to date.
"She beat them all at weight for age, that's a huge effort," Clarke said.
"She is a horse with natural speed and has that ability to kick off a good pace."
Clarke admitted he was unsure about the path ahead for Dream Face, but pointed to a possible assault on the Red Centre's richest sprint, the Pioneer Sprint (1200m), to be run next May.
Dream Face completed a winning double for both Clarke and Montgomerie, who teamed up earlier in the day to win the Lexus Rating 58 Hcp (1200m) with $1.90 favourite Timely Exit.
