Delta Goodrem & Brian McFadden Headline Gala Ball

Mon, May 10 2010

Darwin's best kept secret was revealed today at SKYCITY's Sandbar. International stars Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden will headline the Qantas Darwin Turf Club Gala Ball at SKYCITY Darwin. The main act for the gala ball has always been the subject of hot debate around town in the lead up to the annual event. Past acts have included Human Nature, Leo Sayer, Marcia Hines, David Campbell, Vanessa Amorosi and Jessica Mauboy.

This year it will be a show not to miss. Delta Goodrem, at just 25, is already one of Australia's most successful and highest-selling female artists. Delta says "I am so looking forward to the Darwin Cup Ball. What an amazing opportunity to perform at the biggest black tie event in the Southern Hemisphere and ironically we are the same age, given it has been running for 25 years."

Brian McFadden rose to fame with Irish boy band Westlife before leaving the band to forge his own successful solo career. He is about to launch his new album Wall of Soundz described as catchy electro-pop with heavy auto tune and dance beats. "I too am looking forward to heading north to Darwin to perform at the Ball and giving the Darwin people a night to remember" says McFadden.

Unsurpassed as Darwin‟s social event of the year, 2010 will be no exception.

Along with international artists, Australia‟s largest outdoor seated dinner is also taking on a new view, moving to the newly created lawns of Little Mindil. The Myilly Point escarpment will be the backdrop for this „must attend‟ event overlooking the Arafura Sea.

The Qantas Darwin Turf Club Gala Ball is about elegance and extravagance. It is an opportunity for men and women to dress in their finest and if you only attend one social event this year, do it in style.

Over 3,700 guests attended the 2009 event on the lawns at SKYCITY Darwin. Pre-dinner drinks are held on the beachfront, with a special performance by the Qantas choir from a surprise location. Entrée awaits you at the table and is quickly followed by a magnificent SKYCITY buffet prepared by a team of 60 chefs. After dinner, the opportunity to treat yourself to some opulence in the Cigar and Cognac Lounge or Premium Wine Bar while overlooking an expanse of tables and the partying crowd.

SKYCITY Darwin‟s General Manager Andrew Wilson says the event changes every year.

"Our aim is to continue to introduce new and exciting features to the event which is really an incredible night of fun and entertainment, and provides an excellent opportunity to showcase Darwin hospitality to the local, interstate and international visitors who make their way north for our fabulous dry season", says Mr Wilson.

Darwin Turf Club Chairman Brett Dixon added that the club has been focussed on taking this event to a new level.

"This year with a new venue and internationally acclaimed performers, that certainly has been achieved and we look forward to continuing to present a world class event right here in Darwin", says Mr Dixon.

The scene is set for a perfect celebration to Darwin‟s Cup Carnival, from flowing champagne and fireworks, to endless seafood and fabulous entertainment.

Tickets include plated entrée, buffet dinner, a choice of beverages and entertainment.

The evening on Saturday 31st July, starts at 7.00pm with tables set for 10 people. Tickets are available directly on the Darwin Turf Club website: www.darwinturfclub.org.au or contact the club on (08) 8923 422 to reserve your seats.
