Brown hopes for grandstand finish

Thu, May 12 2011

Promising young hoop Alana Brown will be looking to finish the National Apprentice Series on a winning note when she rides Road To Finniss at Morphettville Parks today.

The seven-race series finishes up tomorrow but the NT is looking for back-to-back victories after Cara Angel claimed the home-race at Alice Springs last week with Lisa Lefoe's Cristambul.

Brown will jump aboard last start winner Road To Finniss for John Hyam in the $20,000 Panasonic Rating 0-75 Hcp (1400m).

The 17-year-old is hoping today's event goes smoother than the last time she travelled interstate for the series.

Brown was set to ride at Moonee Valley back in March and was on a plane to Melbourne when her only ride for the night was scratched.

Road To Finniss rises in class from his win in a 0-68 race at Strathalbyn last month, will start from barrier nine and is rated a $15 chance in early markets. You Dee Cee, to be ridden by another Territorian in Alice Springs born-and-bred Scott Westover, is a $3.50 favourite.

The race gets under way at 3.10pm.

Road To Finniss is the second of two rides on the card for Brown, who will also partner Grand Group for Ken Sweeney in race four. Grand Group is considered one of the outsiders in the 0-63 Hcp (1550m) for apprentice riders only. The National Apprentice Series features young jockeys from around Australia.
