Brown bags a brace

Sun, September 04 2011

The Stephen Brown stable juggernaut continued on it’s unstoppable journey yesterday with yet another double on the four-race Fannie Bay card.

Brown bagged a brace of wins a week ago – as did Gary Clarke – and this time it was the turn of Faster Stronger and Robson Street to represent the stable in the winner’s circle.

Faster Stronger, a short-priced favourite, never gave his supporters a moments concern in the day’s opener, the 1600m Sky Racing Handicap.

With Scott Hillebrand in the saddle, the good-looking son of Stravinsky was untested to win by 1 ¾ lengths from Oigles, with Tequila Midnight third.

Two races later, in the Trans Territory Foods Handicap, it was the turn of Robson Street and Brown’s daughter Alana to salute the judge.

Having won his last two starts, Robson Street was also a favourite among backers and after leading on the fence throughout, drew clear over the concluding stages to beat stablemate Another Bay and The Bean Counter by 2 ¾ lengths.

Robson Street, a striking grey five-year-old, has now won three of his five starts at Fannie Bay and, like Faster Stronger, appears to be an improving type.

Celestial Kingdom denied the Brown stable a hat-trick when he held out Albert Park Lake in a stirring finish to the Bridge Toyota Handicap.

Celestial Kingdom had been placed at his previous three starts.
