Darwin's top trainer Stephen Brown has two runners going around at today's VRC Crown Oaks meeting at Flemington.
Brown's three-year-old gelding Emboldened will run in the TCL 3D TV Plate (1400m), before stable speedster Canali tackles Flemington's main straight for the first time in the Swisse Vitamins Plate (1000m).
Unbeaten in his four starts at Fannie Bay, Emboldened will tackle the 1400m distance for the first time in the race specifically for greys.
"He's bred to go 1600m to 2000m," Brown said last night. "But he's run a sub-57 seconds over 1000m even though he's never run 1400m before. He won over 1300m on (Darwin) Cup day so we're counting on him running 1400m a bit better than 1300m."
Brown is confident Emboldened's poor barrier habits are behind him after the four Top End wins
Canali's ability to run fast in a straight line will be closely watched by Brown and his connections.
