Angel well placed to break NT drought

Thu, April 28 2011

CARA Angel will try to break the Territory's drought when the National Apprentice Series goes west today.

The promising hoop is riding the bottom-weight True Vista for Fred Kersley in the Tack On Track-National Apprentices' Challenge (1400m) at Ascot. Riders from the NT haven't had much luck in the series this year, with scratchings and outside chances not helping the cause.

It's a similar story here with True Vista stepping up in class despite having just one placing from his seven starts, but the grey gelding has put in some better efforts recently. The top-weight Elle Choisit and Neville Parnham's Striking Guru look to be the two to beat, both coming into the race on the back of some pretty good form.

The race is the sixth on the card and gets under way at 4.53pm.

The National Apprentice Series features talented young jockeys from around Australia competing in a seven-race series nationwide, with all NT-based apprentices getting the chance to ride in the event.

After this there are two races remaining in the series, one at Alice Springs on Cup day before finishing up at Morphettville next month.
