Angel gets her wings

Fri, January 06 2012

Cara Angel jokes that Tasmania is the furthest she has been abroad.

But that won't stop the 26-year-old Darwin apprentice jockey from packing her bags next month for the Middle East.

Angel was yesterday announced as Australia's representative for the Qatar Apprentice Jockeys Invitation Series to be held from February 28 to March 1.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. To be the only apprentice from Australia makes me realise how lucky I am," Angel told the NT News.

"I'm sure it will be a culture shock because I've never been overseas - apart from Mandorah and Tasmania."

Angel will join riders from South Africa, New Zealand, Macau, Mauritius, Hong Kong, Japan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia in the three-race series held at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.
